The Palau de la Música is known as the highlight site of the architectural period, Modernisme. It is such a valuable and crucial part of Barcelona’s Modernisme period that in 1997, it was declared a World Heritage site. Ever since the Palau de la Música opened in 1908, it has maintained a sophistication and elegance that almost no other concert hall has withheld. The Palau de la Música is owned by the Catalan Choir and has been an important location for Catalan culture. Over the years, the Palau de la Música has been an instrumental location for publishing the journal, Musical Catalana, organizing concerts, and serving as a research location for traditional songs.
During the guided tour, you will have the chance to tour the outside and inside of the Palau de la Música. In the beginning, you will tour the façade and listen and view an audio-visual introduction. Then, you will enter the Palau de la Música, and tour the chamber music hall, the concert hall, the foyer, and the Lluis Millet hall. After touring the inside of the Palau de la Música, you will get the chance to tour the infamous Sala Millet and balcony. The balcony features flowered columns, which is one of the most gorgeous sites in Barcelona.
The Palau de la Música runs year round, starts at 10am, and will last approximately 55 minutes. There are tour guides who speak Catalan, Spanish, English, French, and/or Italian. So, you could even experience this tour in the original language of the people who owned and visited the Palau de la Música, the Catalans. As for the cost, it costs 19 euros for adults, and tickets for children ten years old and younger are free. The Palau de la Música is completely done on foot, so plan on wearing comfortable shoes.
